Victoria, Australia

Birregurra is a quiet historic town situated in the foothills of The Otway Ranges. The township dates back to the 1860s. The town was first named Bowden's Point, before being named Birregurra-on-the-Barwon when the township moved. It is known as the 'town of churches', having a few of these in such a small town.

The town is just 25 minutes from Lorne and the spectacular coast along the Great Ocean Road, and within two hours drive form melbourne.

It has a wide range of gift shops, cafes and galleries. A good way to see the place is to pick up a free Heritage Walk Map, which we did. This will guide you around the interesting sites of the town, taking you all through the town. The sites include the churches, an old Cobb & Co station, the train station that was built in 1877 and a walk along the Barwon River. There is also a picturesque golf course which is worth a visit and a round of golf.

Thousands of visitors descend on the town in October for a weekend festival. If you like the crowds, come and join them at this time, otherwise drop in any other time to enjoy this sleepy historic town.
