Highlights:
- West Coast Wilderness Railway: a restored steam train that runs between Strahan and Queenstown, winding its way through spectacular rainforest.
- Beaches: north of Strahan is Ocean Beach. At the right time of the year you can see the Mutton Birds returning for their day out at sea.
- Sand Dunes: Hently sand dunes are 30 m high moving dunes which are fun to explore and play on. The dunes are just 15 minutes from Strahan on Zeehan Rd.
- Theatre: see a performance of "The Ship That Never Was" at the Strahan Visitor Centre
- Galleries: Strahan Woodworks has great examples of wood work done with Tasmanian timbers.
- Boat Cruises: there are a few companies that run cruises that explore Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River, including a stopover on the historic site of Sarah Island, which was used as a place of banishment for the worst convicts of the colony, used between 1822 and 1833.
Eating & Drinking:
- there are plenty of quality restaurants around town, many of these specialising in seafood, caught fresh from the waters surrounding the town.

- The river at Strahan is the Gordon River.
- The weather on this side of Tasmania is known to be cold and wet, even when the rest of tasmania is having fine weather.
