Home Hill, and its close neighbour Ayr (12 km away), are the main towns of the Burdekin, and the two towns straddle the Burdekin River. The town is located about 100km south of Townsville

- visit Ashworths Treasures of the Earth, a rock and gemstone shop, with a small museum display.
- visit Ayr
- drive over the Burdekin River Bridge 'Silver Link' bridge across the Burdekin River
- visit the Burdekin Bridge Interpretive Centre for a photographic deisplay of the history of the bridge.
- go to Charlies Hill WWII site
- go birdwatching at the nearby wetlands
- if you are travelling by RV or campervan, stay overnight and enjoy the facilities of the comfort stop. Alternatively, there is the Funny Dunny Park at Wunjunga about 30 minutes south.
- go fishing
- head to Alva Beach for a swim
- watch the Cane Burning in the evenings, between June and November)
