What:

Wagga Wagga is the largest inland city in NSW, situated on the Murrumbidgee River. It is only three hours drive from Canberra.

Highlights:

• Botanic Gardens: The free zoo is great value. It is mostly geared towards kids, but it is always fun for adults to see these animals up close. The surrounding gardens are nice and worth a stroll though. At the museum of the riverina, check out the sporting hall of fame for some famous names that have come from this region. You will be surprised.
• Charles Sturt University: wine and cheese tasting. There are also a few other wineries in this region worth checking out.
• Old Buildings: The old train station and other buildings around the civic centre.

Eating, Drinking & Sleeping:

• Eating: There are a couple of food halls in the shopping centres along the main street which are always goo value.
• Drinking: Like most country towns, there is a good selection of pubs to enjoy a beer.
• Sleeping: You wont have to get far from the centre of town to find a place to stay.

Other things you should know about:

• Some of the Australian sporting heroes from Wagga Wagga: Mark Tubby Taylor, Geoff Lawson, Michael Slater, Wayne King Carey, Peter Stirlo Stirling, Paul Kelly, and Tony Roche.
• Wagga Wagga means place of many birds
• Towns nearby worth a visit are 'The Rock', worth visiting just for the name, and Junee which has a chocolate and licorice factory.
