12 Apostles
Tourists at the 12 Apostles

The 12 Apostles is a popular stop along the Great Ocean Road tourist route in Victoria. The closest town is Port Campbell where there are several accommodation options if you wish to stay the night. Many tourists will go on a long day trip from Melbourne, along the Great Ocean Road, to view these.

There are walkways to get to the shoreline for views up and down the coast of the large rock formations just off the shore. If you are lucky in the early evening you may spot little penguins coming ashore.

The rocks are constantly being eroded away by the ocean swell. Quite a few years ago one of the most popular formations, London Bridge, spectacularly fell down leaving a couple of tourists stranded. In 2009 it was reported in that another of the rock formations had fallen over, but this ended up being one of the 'Three Sisters', a companion formation further along the coast. There are only eight of the 12 Apostles left standing, but due to constant erosion it is not expected to always be that way. See them while they are still there.
