Muslim / Islam
Muslims follow the prophet Muhammad. The followers are centred around the arabic world, with other major communities around the world such as in Indonesia. In the early days this religion quickly became a world empire through expansion and conquest. The Qur'an, their holy book, declares that Muslims are God's representatives on earth, that God has given creation to mankind as a devine trust, and that the realisation of God's Will leads to eternal reward or punishment. There are two major sects - Shia and Sunni. Major events include Ramadan, a period of fasting.
One of the most widely-held myths among those in English-speaking countries is that Islamic believers are Arabs. In fact, most Islamic people do not live in the Arabic nations of the Middle East.
