- The first people to officially climb the mountain were Sir Edmund Hillary and the Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, in 1953
- In 2006, Geri Winkler, from Vienna Austria, became the first diabetic to climb Everest. He started his journey from 400 metres below sea-level at the Dead Sea.
- The youngest person the climb the mountain is Ming Kipa Sherpa who scaled the peak at 15 years and 9 months.
- Junko Tabei from Japan became the first woman to reach the top of Everest, achieving this feat in 1975.
- The first double amputee to climb Everest was Mark Inglis from New Zealand, in 2006
- The mountain is 60 million years old
- Water boils at 70 degree at the top
