This wonders list is based on the votes of more than 45 million people, who voted in an internet campaign to choose the seven "new" wonders of the world out of 21 shortlisted historical buildings or monuments, which were selected from the top 77 nominees that had earned the most votes. This New 7 Wonders of the World List was announced during the Official Declaration ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, July 7, 2007 - 07.07.07.

Wonder Description
1. Chichen Itza in Mexico Chichen Itza was the center of the Mayan civilization in its day. Parts of this ancient city is still visible in several structures, including the pyramid of Kukulkan.
2. the Coliseum in Rome The Coliseum is a giant amphitheater in the center of Rome. It was built over 2,000 years ago, once seated 50,000 people.
3. the Great Wall of China The Great Wall of China is a wall 4,160-mile long, built to protect China from invading tribes. The structire began in the 7th century B.C., taking hundreds of years to build.
4. Incan ruins of Machu Picchu This Inca City was built 8,000 feet above sea level in the 15th century by Incan emperor Pachacutec. The city was abandoned by the Incas, andy remained unknown until it was rediscovered by an explorer in 1911.
5. Petra in Jordan This ancient capital city was built around 9 B.C. during the reign of King Aretas IV. The city continued to flourish during the Roman Empire, and is now visible in its pink stone ruins and carved façade.
6. Taj Mahal in India The Taj Mahal was built in 1630 by a grieving emperor, Shah Jahan, in honor of his dead wife. The building is made fom white marble, and combines Indian, Persian, and Islamic styles of architecture.The ultimate building, the perfect symmetry beautiful from a distance and the detail beautiful from up close.
7. Christ Redeemer Statue in Brazil This statue is 125 feet tall, and stand atop the Corcovado Mountain abovethe Brazilian city of Rio. Constructed in France by sculptor Paul Landowski, taking five years to build. It was shipped to Brazil in pieces, and then carried up the mountain by train, then reassembled.
