Why Go:
|
India's most romantic fort city, providing the setting off point
for camel treks in the surrounding sand dunes.
|
Highlights:
|
- The Fort: one of the few places in India where you can
stay within the fort walls. For this reason they call it a living
fort.
- Camel Trekking: this is one of the main reasons many
people visit Jaisalmer - and it was a highlight of my 3-month
trip to India. There are a few options available - and even the
'off the beaten track' treks are not much different than the standard
ones. Shop around for a good group of people.
|
Lowlights:
|
- As always in India, you need to be aware of unscrupulous locals
who will try and rip you off. However, don't be so paranoid that
you don't enjoy yourself.
|
Eating & Drinking:
|
- There are quite a few places to stay within the fort walls -
which are worth getting for the experience.
