Travel Health - Keeping Your Health While Travelling
[ back to Travel Health ]
There are a few things you can do at all stages of your trip to make sure it is a safe and healthy one.
Before Going
- Make a medical packing list (see our list for ideas)
- Get medications that you may need, though make sure that they are allowed to be taken to the countries you are visiting. See if they are available there - they may be cheaper to buy too.
- Take copies of prescriptions and/or letters from your doctor for any medications or eye glasses that you may need.
- Get yourself fit and healthy before going, as you may not have the time to exercise while on the road and you may be exposed to illnesses your body is not immune to.
- Get all the injections required for the region you are visiting. A Medical Travel Clinic is best for the most up to date information.

During your trip
- Remember to take any medications - away from your regular routine you may forget.
- Avoid exposing yourself unnecessarily to germs (keep it in perspective and enjoy and experience all that it has to offer)
- Exercise when you can to stay healthy.
When you return home
- It is important if you are feeling unwell in the weeks following your travel that you consult a medical doctor and discuss your recent destinations as a possible source of your illness. You may have been exposed to a myriad of infectious diseases, some which take time to have an effect on your health.
