List of Ubud's Palaces and Temples

Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung)

Located in the center of Ubud, this historic palace was once the residence of the royal family. Visitors can explore its beautiful gardens, intricate architecture, and enjoy traditional dance performances held in the evening, making it a central cultural hub.

Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave)

Situated about 6 km east of Ubud, Goa Gajah is an ancient archaeological site featuring a cave adorned with intricate carvings and bathing pools. This temple complex dates back to the 11th century and offers a serene atmosphere for reflection and exploration.

Tirta Empul Temple

About 18 km northeast of Ubud, Tirta Empul is a sacred water temple famous for its holy springs. Visitors can participate in purification rituals and witness locals bathing in the sacred waters, surrounded by stunning natural beauty and traditional architecture.

Gunung Kawi

Located approximately 18 km northeast of Ubud in Tampaksiring, Gunung Kawi is an impressive temple complex featuring 10 rock-cut shrines (candi) carved into the cliffs. The site is surrounded by lush rice fields and provides insight into Bali's ancient history.

Pura Taman Saraswati

Found in central Ubud, this beautiful water temple is dedicated to Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom and arts. Visitors can admire its stunning lotus pond and intricate stone carvings, and it’s also a popular venue for cultural performances.

Pura Dalem Ubud

Located just a short walk from the Ubud Market, this temple is dedicated to the god of death and is known for its beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere. The temple often hosts traditional ceremonies and rituals, providing insight into Balinese spirituality.

Pura Penataran Sasih

Situated about 4 km northeast of Ubud, this ancient temple complex features impressive stone carvings and a large bell (genta) known as the “Moon Bell.” It’s a quiet spot for visitors to appreciate the spiritual significance of Balinese architecture.

Pura Gunung Lebah

Nestled at the end of the Campuhan Ridge Walk, this tranquil riverside temple is surrounded by lush greenery and offers a peaceful retreat. The temple is dedicated to the goddess of the river and provides a serene atmosphere for meditation and reflection.
