Adventure Beyond Devotion: Unexplored Trails Around Katra
Katra is perhaps the most devoted name synonymous with it, thanks to this holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. This sacred shrine attracts millions each year. But it has an altogether different version to present beyond the busy streets which throng with pilgrims and religiously imbued hum. There comes a trip when one goes across to stay at the best hotel in Katra, Bloom Hotel-Katra.
Let me tell you about some journeys that go beyond devotion because they will take me closer to the unexplored paths and secret treasures surrounding the lovely place called Katra.
Arriving at Bloom Hotel - Katra
All I would say about going on the next trip to Bloom would be 'the moment that sets a person free.’ That was the moment right when I entered the warmth of Bloom Hotel - Katra. The property stood out for me because of its modern design and clean, crisp feel, making it an ideal base for my explorations. The staff welcomed me warmly, and before I knew it, I was in my room. It had all the essentials and more: a cosy CloudBed™ that promised a great night's sleep, a flat-screen TV, high-speed WiFi, and even an electric kettle for my evening green tea.
Then I headed to the in-house Bloom Café for a wholesome vegetarian meal. The food was great and soothing and just what I needed to prepare me for the rest of my adventures ahead.
Unknown Gems to Visit
1. Nau Devi Cave Temple (30 minutes Drive)
While the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine gets the fame, the Nau Devi Temple is the hidden treasure. Just a 30 minutes drive from Bloom, the temple is spread across nine small caves containing the various forms of Goddess Durga. The stroll through the caves was very different, with cool, moist stone walls and the vibrations of devotional chanting that seemed to envelop everyone in an ethereal mood. The gentle gurgling of the river nearby gave the whole experience a tranquil feel.
2. Bhimgarh Fort (30-Minute Drive)
Bhimgarh Fort was my next destination, roughly half an hour from Katra. This place is the perfect blend of history and breathtaking views. I could almost feel the stories of ancient warriors come to life as I walked up the stone pathway to reach the entrance. The view at the top was simply mesmerizing - sweeping views of the valley below. I sat under a tree with shade and let the cooling breeze take away all the fatigue of my trek.
3. Shiv Khori (90-Minute Drive)
Siv Khori was thhe next stop. It is a 90- minute drive from Bloom Hotel. It's full of adventure, like nothing found anywhere in nature. This place is considered a sacred cave shrine in the name of Lord Shiva, and this structure itself is said to be the natural form of this place. As I walked towards the cave, it was covered with greenery. The chirping of birds accompanied me to this cave.
Return to Bloom Hotel for some R&R
After a whole day of exploration, I was itching to get back to the comfort of my hotel. The promise of comfort that the hotel made wasn't just a claim; it was real. A refreshing rain shower and the plush CloudBed™ worked wonders to ease the tiredness from my limbs. I spent some time in the lounge of the hotel and made use of their high-speed WiFi to share pictures and stories with my friends.
The staff was attentive, and they checked up on me to ensure I had everything I needed. There was something special about the way they made me feel right at home. Even in a city bustling with travellers, Bloom offered a calm retreat.
Patnitop: The Scenic Escape (90-Minute Drive)
The next morning, I set out to Patnitop, about an hour and a half journey from Katra. This hill station is a treasure trove for nature lovers because of its panoramic views and cool climate. I wandered in trails lined with tall pines, every step carried on by the fragrance of freshly scented pine needles and sounds rustling through leaves. Patnitop's meadow-like landscape dotted with picnickers and paragliders made it an idyllic spot to soak in nature's beauty.Ardhkuwari Temple: A Devotional Detour (2 km Trek, 45-minute walk)
I made sure to visit Ardhkuwari Temple. It is a two-hour trek from Katra. Ardhkuwari is special because it is said that Mata Vaishno Devi meditated here for nine months. Sometimes, the steepness of the path would deter me, but every step was worth it. The temple is located in a small cave, which is hard to reach but is worth your endurance for the spiritual experience it gives you.
Comfort of Bloom after Adventure
It was evening, when I returned to the Bloom Hotel - Katra. Starlight twinkling from the streets of Katra below felt like a welcoming embrace. I celebrated that by having a meal at the Bloom Café and sharing stories with fellow travelers telling how they would explore this region. With all the stories in mind. I settled into my CloudBed ™ to drift off.
