Costs on the road

[ back to the Around Australia Guide ]

How much it will cost you on a caravan or campervan trip around Australia will vary greatly depending on how you travel. Here is some informaiton about our costs, which may give you an indication of what it may cost you.

Overall we average about $12 a night for accommodation, which is a mix of free camping, staying with friends, unpowered caravan sites and powered caravan sites.

At the start of our trip, we were travelling up through the centre and we were filling up the fuel tank (petrol) nearly every day at about $100 each time. Then as we slowing headed down the east coast we were only filling thetank about once a week (a bit cheaper too as the fuel price dropped). So cost will vary a lot depending on how far you are travelling and how often, and the current fuel costs.

Foodwise we mostly eat in, and our weekly grocery bill would be $100-150 for two adults and an infant.
