Port Douglas is on the coast in the Tropical North Queensland, located just off the Captain Cook highway north of Cairns
Places to see and things to do
- take a cruise out to the great barrier reef, such as the Low Isles. If you don't go out on one of these boats, you can sit watch as they come in with their sunburnt passengers about 4pm.
- go shopping along Macrossan St, or every Sunday there is a big market. There are also some upmarket shops at Marina Mirage.
- visit the Rainforest Habitat wildlife sanctuary, where they have mostly birds form a variety of habitats - wetlands, rainforest and grasslands. You can see a cassowary, and even have breakfast with the birds or lunch with the Lorikeets.
- have a drink at one of the cool pubs in the town centre
- take a swim or walk along the 4-mile beach
- walk or drive up to Flagstaff Hill Lookout, with views of the Coral Sea, along the coast and of four mile beach.
