mareeba is situated on the Atherton Tablelands, and the area is well known for Coffee Plantations, producing the majority of Australia's coffee supplies.
Places to see and things to do
- There are quite a few coffee places that offer tours, sales and info about the coffee making process. They range for the basic though very enjoyable small production by Bruno Maloberti, called North Queensland Gold, to the Coffee Works and Coffee World which has an extensive museum about everything coffee, and takes tasting tours where you can taste 21 different coffees. Other places are Skybury Coffee Plantation (The Australian Coffee Centre), Tichum Creek coffee farm, Jacques coffee plantation.
- Go camping at Granite Gorge Nature Park, where you can go for a walk, feed the rock wallabies, and swim in a waterhole.
- Balloon Flights
- The Mareeba Wetlands are 7km north of town. Here you can see a large variety of water birds.
