Two short trips into Mexico

Sunday
11th June
Flew to Cancun, Mexico, to visit my sister Allison and her boyfriend Reggie. I can see why they have spent so long bumming around this place. I would have been lost with the language barrier if they were not around. I was quite impressed with Alli's Spanish skills.
Monday 12th June
Caught a ferry to Isla Majeres, an island just of the coast of Cancun. The beaches around here are just wonderful, just like you see on postcards - turquoise blue water and white sandy beaches.
Tuesday
13th June
Hired mopeds and did a lap of the island. Swam with some harmless (so they said) cat sharks in a penned in beach area.
Wednesday 14th June
Went with Alli to see some ancient Mayan ruins at Tulum.
Thursday 15th June
After a lazy day in Mexico, I flew back to Miami for the night before flying to San Diego.

Sunday 18th June
Several days later and I am back in Mexico, but it could have been a total different world. One evening while in San Diego, I caught a tram to the Mexican border and then walked across to TJ (Tijuana). After sending a week in Cancun, this part of Mexico was not very impressive. It is full of sleazy bars with young Americans and the beer is not that cheap.
