Yungaburra

Queensland, Australia

Yungaburra is a tranquil and picturesque village located in the Atherton Tablelands, in Northern Queensland. It is only a one hour drive form Cairns. It has a high number of heritage listed buildings. The town was established in the 1880s, and originally called Allumbah Pocket.

Places to see and things to do

  • Historic walking tour of town, a walk brochure is available from the helpful info centre.
  • platypus spotting from the platypus hide
  • have a drink at the historic pub, the Lake Eacham Hotel built in 1910.
  • look for Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroos.
  • walk or drive to the Curtain Fig Tree, possibly the most photographed tree in Queensland.
  • stroll along the Peterson Creek, a map is available locally.
  • Try some interesting wines at the Wild Mountain Cellars - with wines and liqours made from tropical and unusual fruits.
  • visit Gallo Dairyland, a dairy and cheese factory, as well as a cafe and chocolate factory.
  • Drive out to the crater lakes, Lake Barrine and Lake Eacham. At Lake Barrine, you can go on a lake cruise, have devonshire tea at the historic tea house and walk around the lake. There is also two huge Kauri Pines.
