Bowen is a nice quiet town in Northern Queensland, with great beaches and a sunny tropical climate. It is located 40 minutes north of Airlie Beach, and the Whitsunday Islands.
Places to see and things to do
- drive or walk to the Flagstaff Hill Lookout, for views across the coral sea to the Whitsunday Islands.
- award winning beaches are just to the north of town; Rose Bay, Horseshoe Bay, Coral Bay (Clothes Optional) , Murray Bay, Front Beach, Kings Beach and Queens Bach.
- there is excellent snorkling just metres off some of the beaches
- there are several great walking tracks
- walk around town and see the numerous murals on the walls of buildings
- go birdwatching or just relax around the waters of Mullers Lagoon, close to the town centre.
- just south of town is the Big Mango
- walk aorund and try to recognise some of the buildings that were used in the classic Baz Lurman film 'Australia'.
- take a driving tour of the town and surrounding areas, following the Golden Arrow Tour.
- take a day trip to Airlie Beach and possibly the Whitsunday Islands.
