Tennant Creek is a welcome stopover on the route north or south along the Stuart Highway. Tennant Creek is the location of the last gold rush in Australia.
Places to see and things to do
- Go for a stroll around the Tennant Creek Telegraph Station. The station is located in a reserve about 10 km north of Tennant Creek along the Stuart Highway. You can get a key to access the buildings from the info centre in town, and take a self-guided tour around the area.
- Visit Lake Mary Ann - a great spot for a picnic
- Drive up to Bill Allen Lookout for a panoramic view around the area.
- Visit the Battery Hill Mining Centre, which also houses the visitors centre.
- Get Cultured at the Nyinkka Nyunyu Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre, which includes a gallery and museum.
