Banka Banka

Northern Territory, Australia

Located on the Stuart Highway about 100km north of Tennant Creek, Banka Banka is not actually a town, but an old cattle station. The area of the station would be bigger than most towns though. It is now an excellent popular friendly camping spot for travellers of the Stuart Highway. Banka Banka is situated 100 kms noth of Tennant Creek and 570 kms south of Katherine.

Facilities

  • there is spring water available that is good to drink. You can fill up your tanks and wash your cars with it.
  • kiosk with drinks, including alcoholic.
  • no powered sites

Places to see and things to do

  • get a shady and grassy campsite and sit back with a cold beer fromthe licensed kiosk.
  • see the nightly slide show about life on a large working cattle station.
  • walk to the lookout just behind the kiosk, with views back over the campground and into the distance. From the lookout you can hike along the ridge, following the white tins, to a waterhole about 2km away. You can return the same way or follow the road back to the campsite. During the dry season the waterhole may not be very big and not suitable for swimming.
  • stroll around the area and check out the roaming animals such as turkeys, goats, cows, dogs and kangaroos.
